Ford Mustang and Fusion named in top-10 best cars for 2013

Car and Driver’s annual award for ten best vehicles for 2013 was recently announced, and for those of you who have followed the publications award in past years might think you are looking at the same thing from last year.

The Ford Mustang GT/Boss 302 along with the Porsche Boxster and BMW’s 3 Series has reclaimed its stake on the list for high performance engines. At a quick glance it almost looks like the people at Car and Driver just recycled their list. The only recognizable addition to the list was the new Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S (Toyota GT86) models.

Arguably the most appreciated model on the list is the Ford Mustang Boss 302. In a recent spot from “Jay Leno’s Garage” the comic seemed to be very impressed by the Boss 302’s balance of power and performance. He went as far to say that the Boss 302 Laguna Seca was “the most sports car of any Mustang Variant”. The comedian went as far to claim that he would willingly select the Ford Mustang over his own Shelby GT500. For many having any Shelby model would be an absolute dream.

So for Leno to make such a statement it would have to be with great premises or maybe his credentials as a renown car collector and enthusiast is enough to justify that claim? You can watch his webisode here. So how does the Mustang GT/Boss 302 stack up against the others in Car and Drivers Best 10? Take a look for yourself:

Audi A6 and A7
BMW 3 Series
Ford Mustang GT/Boss 302
Honda Accord
Honda Fit
Mazda MX-5 Miata
Porsche Boxster
Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ
Volkswagen Golf
and lastly, the modest Ford Fusion (Mondeo)

The Ford Fusion is indeed a very modest sedan, but it has grown into one of the most appreciated models that Ford has ever produced. To make this best 10 lest for another year has proven that the Fusion has a lot to offer drivers. In 2006 the Fusion more or less replaced the Taurus as its power driven four-door sedan. Its bold design is as risky as when Taurus made its first impact in 1986, the risk paid off by making the Fusion one of the top family sedans on the market today. It is spacious, it has power and smooth handling—and fuel efficiency to brag about.

When it dropped its V6 engine and replaced it with a more efficient four-cylinder it wasn’t sure how it would perform but it has still ranked as one of the most powerful sedans, and just came up shy as best in class for fuel efficiency. Unless you go with the Hybrid model option and you can reach 47mph highway!

With the Mustang GT and Fusion, ford stakes its claim in two of the ten spots that Car and Driver rewards and it is something that will allow Ford Motor Company to brag about. But it also gives them a sense of measurement for future models.
